A Republican state legislator named Sally Kern from Oklahoma has come under considerable pressure after some ill-advised, hyperbolic and dare we say inaccurate statements about the threat posed by the apocalyptic scourge of ... homosexuality. Leave it to Ellen to puncture the comments with a mix of seriousness, grace and humor. Watch as she calls to try to talk to the representative, who by the way says she isn't sorry and that she has received death threats because of the comments (though this is apparently a questionable claim). Oh, and she actually has a gay son herself. Bet he feels great about himself.

151. I agree with senator Kern. They do teach this type of indoctrination in schools, and push it in corporations as diversity. If homosexuals are so proud of what they are, why do they call it "gay" there already was a word for it. Isn't it ironic that the "religious," especially evangelical Christians, lead the parade to demonize women, reproduction, sex and sex education, and homosexuals. The Bible is a handbook for laying guilt upon people for the benefit of evangelists and the clergy who, of course, are the only ones capable of "cleansing souls." When "God" and the Bible are substituted for education, the clergy is empowered to dictate and control our lives. Their message is, "You are evil, filthy and dirty and only WE can redeem you." And isn't it ironic that the only way we can be redeemed is to give money to the church? It is sad irony that the most hate on these pages is from people who "follow a loving God." And make no mistake: If the Christian church had total power in America as it does elsewhere, unbelievers would be killed in a heartbeat. Study, learn, beware the church, be truly compassionate, and be safe.

I am sorry, there are still many people who do not feel that homosexuality is normal, healthy, or acceptable. These people are called mainstream America. 161. Homosexuality is not a THREAT to anyone! Not to marraige, society, etc. The gay people I know just want to legally be recognized. Imagine if your love was in the hospital on their deathbed and you could not come see them because you are not "family." Or if you lived with a spouse most of your life...you love this person with all your heart. You pass away and your spouse has no right to your estate. Get real people. Organized religion profits greatly by making homosexuality appear to be a threat. TV evangelists live the good life by making others seem evil and taking your money through fear tactics. If only the church would organize to protect children from violence. School shootings are on the rise. Let's look at the real threats in our society.
