Television wags have sniped that the Super Bowl is the only television event where viewership would actually decrease if the commercials were removed. We'd have to agree. Even with sponsors not blinking at price tags clocking in at $2.7M to $3M for a 30-second spot, some ads are thrown overboard into the wake of the information diaspora that is the Internet. Over the years, various networks have turned away many an ad -- judging them as either too offensive, downright embarrassing or masquerading as dreaded 'advocacy ads.' We at The Videologist have labored -- undeterred by the NFL -- to wade through many bouncy chests, bared bottoms and awkward kisses to figure out why exactly these ads were dismissed. It was tough work.
'Britney Spears'
Pepsi, 2002
Spot Remover: Back when she was the embodiment of budding sexuality, Britney Spears brought her dance moves and provocative leering to new heights in this Pepsi commercial. Skimpy outfit aside, her curvaceousness had to be edited onto to the dance floor, leaving us an advert much like a 24-hour old lukewarm Pepsi-Cola. In retrospect though, what was the fuss all about?
A Likely Sponsor: 'Dance War' -- who knew this reject signaled the beginning of dancing as a contact sport?
Most Offended: The marketing geniuses at Coke.

121. The super bowl is just the super bowl ....... no one watches just for the commercials, and if they do, then they r not a true sports fan. love the patriots, too bad they gave it away tonight. i'm wondering though if brittays' add was too explecit or maybe its because shes in the middle of a meltdown. the commercials do not make the game ...... the teams do

We were promised the PepsiCO commerical.. the VERY FIRST DEAF commerical during Super Bowl in HISTORY!!
It's a disgrace to the DEAF community... do something about this!

123. I'll tell you what I am not a Britney Spears fan but the commercial was extremely good and I saw nothing remotely racy in it. I think someone in the censors office may be a bit tight a**ed, or possible has a personal agenda aginst her...I am so tired of hearing about the bad stuff, She was hot in the ad and deserved the credit for a job well done !!!

125. Ok, I love the superball. But you know what would be really hot? A half time show with plus sized models! FindmyBBW.com - the dating network for women with curves and men who love them.

126. 1. Big guy get off your lazy ass and get your own damn beer. You have two legs and are probably perfectly capable of using them.
2. MZZ if anyone wants to get out of a hurtful relationship all they have to do is leave when the ungreatful ass isn't there. End of story. If you get your ass beat that is your own damn fault.
3. (pertains to comercials and superbowl) It's football, an american sport. It will be what it will be and that's that.
4. Pats lost and that sucks. It would have been great to see them win.

127. The super bowl is a time for gatherings, fun, food and relaxation. It's a break from all the madness in the world. I don't watch it but I cooked a butt load of food for friends and family. And I enjoy watching them be happy for a couple hours. It was a couple hours that I got a break from all the crap on the news. Congrats Giants!!! I guess. LOL

129. i taped the game, cuz i usua;;y watch it after our services on that day...but tonight i watched the last quarter, and at the end, i think it was bad sportsmanship of the PAT coach to walk off the field and part of the team and not even acknowledge, well, he did acknowledge the GIANTS coach, but did not stay when they had to clear the field...the official rules state that one more play had to be made...which with one sec left could have been waived, but it is an NFL rule...and to walk off the field like he did....i think shows bad conduct on his part and anyone who walked off with him. A real sportsman would have waited and then again, gone and congratulated the winning team. Everyone, esp. with a season like they had, it had to be hard to lose... but i think he needs an attitude adjustment by someone. What kind of example does doing that show to the young ppl of tomorrow? that if you lose...well...i'll stop there....congratulations eli, you had a hard season, with all the comments made, and you deserved to win...and you did your best brady...be proud !!!! GBU both.

131. First of all, mzztlove, did you know that there's a cap locks key on your keyboard, so that you don't have to use all caps? Secondly, you might want to learn to spell and perhaps take an English course to improve your grammar. Finally, I'm sorry you have issues, but my wife and I enjoy the Superbowl together and no one beats on anyone else. If you had been around us, though, I bet my wife would have kicked your ass.

133. The Super Bowl still doesn't compare with baseball's World Series. But the commercials make it worth watching.
