Television wags have sniped that the Super Bowl is the only television event where viewership would actually decrease if the commercials were removed. We'd have to agree. Even with sponsors not blinking at price tags clocking in at $2.7M to $3M for a 30-second spot, some ads are thrown overboard into the wake of the information diaspora that is the Internet. Over the years, various networks have turned away many an ad -- judging them as either too offensive, downright embarrassing or masquerading as dreaded 'advocacy ads.' We at The Videologist have labored -- undeterred by the NFL -- to wade through many bouncy chests, bared bottoms and awkward kisses to figure out why exactly these ads were dismissed. It was tough work.
'Britney Spears'
Pepsi, 2002
Spot Remover: Back when she was the embodiment of budding sexuality, Britney Spears brought her dance moves and provocative leering to new heights in this Pepsi commercial. Skimpy outfit aside, her curvaceousness had to be edited onto to the dance floor, leaving us an advert much like a 24-hour old lukewarm Pepsi-Cola. In retrospect though, what was the fuss all about?
A Likely Sponsor: 'Dance War' -- who knew this reject signaled the beginning of dancing as a contact sport?
Most Offended: The marketing geniuses at Coke.

46. Ok ok, I think we've missed the point. I get what you're trying to say and do. Raise awareness. That's great. but there is a time and a place and this is not it. Instead of being so angry, which puts people on the defensive (as you can read), there's a better way to say things and do things. Sounding like you're attacking mens favorite past time isn't getting the point across just p*ssing people off. And guys, come on, I don't think you're really that cold hearted to say "it's your fault" and mean it. That's not cool either and you know it. So the point? Domestic violence is out there and if you see it, stop it, and the super bowl is on this weekend with crappy half time shows and commercails and if you don't agree with it, don't watch it.

47. In an ideal world I would love to see FREE TV. Free of ALL the debasing, stupid, crude commercials. Free of yet another boring tirade by pitchmen. Free of vulgar and sloppy food commercials and free of women being used strictly as sexual objects to sell some car or viagra or whatever. If we are still being forced to endure commercials, it would be wonderful to see them with class and style rather than targeted at people with a mentality of a fifteen year old adolescent. Finally, remember that the Super Bowl is merely a G.A.M.E. GAME.
