Television wags have sniped that the Super Bowl is the only television event where viewership would actually decrease if the commercials were removed. We'd have to agree. Even with sponsors not blinking at price tags clocking in at $2.7M to $3M for a 30-second spot, some ads are thrown overboard into the wake of the information diaspora that is the Internet. Over the years, various networks have turned away many an ad -- judging them as either too offensive, downright embarrassing or masquerading as dreaded 'advocacy ads.' We at The Videologist have labored -- undeterred by the NFL -- to wade through many bouncy chests, bared bottoms and awkward kisses to figure out why exactly these ads were dismissed. It was tough work.
'Britney Spears'
Pepsi, 2002
Spot Remover: Back when she was the embodiment of budding sexuality, Britney Spears brought her dance moves and provocative leering to new heights in this Pepsi commercial. Skimpy outfit aside, her curvaceousness had to be edited onto to the dance floor, leaving us an advert much like a 24-hour old lukewarm Pepsi-Cola. In retrospect though, what was the fuss all about?
A Likely Sponsor: 'Dance War' -- who knew this reject signaled the beginning of dancing as a contact sport?
Most Offended: The marketing geniuses at Coke.

34. MZZTLOVE if u feel that way dont take it out on the superbowl or football and actually do something about it. its one day of the year and i think you shouldnt blame your probs on it. i dont think a comment on aol.com will change your life and no ones checking the comments for that. they want to hear about the superbowl so take your comments and accusations somewhere else. just because people enjoy the superbowl doesnt mean that they are bad people and need to be told to "take a walk in a victims shoes" . pluss who cares if they gamble all their money away its their problem and there has to be a winner so think before you get mad at anyone whoe enjjoys football. --- and if u want a public service announcement try talking to the ppeople who make them ?

36. My favorite of all time is the Linebacker hitting time wasting members of the office staff with vicious body impacts. Perhaps an update is due except that instead of a single linebacker it is a group of midgets wearing George Bush masks running aound with mallets and smashing people's toes and kneecaps. Their last victim is a full size guy wearing a George Bush mask but he gets it smack in the crotch. Then what's his name from America's Funniest Videos steps out and yells "AFVs first MILLION DOLLAR WINNER !!!!"
Please excuse my imagination; I am uh you know..

38. Sports have gotten to be a huge joke in the US. Instead of having fun, it has become all about the dollar. How much players can make, how much teams can make off of merchandise, ticket prices are outragous, tv sponsers spend millions on that 1 minute spot to eventually take your hard earned paycheck. Young ones gain false hopes thinking it is easy to become a pro and make millions, The list goes on. I use to love sports but now I would rather take my kids fishing, hiking or to a museum than to a ballgame of any kind. It dosen't matter what advertisements are on during the Stupid Bowl, I will be doing something else. Like not getting caught up in the hype.

40. For Jason S, If your beer doesn't get refreshed, and someone is going to get slapped? Wouldn't you be considered an abused husband? I sure sure hope she's not Italian, she might knock the taste right out of your mouth. Good luck with the tepid beer.

41. Professional sports in the United State is solely, utterly, 100 percent about money and advertising -- nothing more.
That said, I thought it was a great commercial and I didn't see why they banned it. Made me want to buy a soda right now!

44. I don't really understand enough about football and it's rules, but to me it makes people come together ,hangout and party. It reminds me of my brother and father yelling, shouting and mom and I getting the food together while hearing happiness in our home. So I still watch it with friends and sometimes by myself. Yay! Go get em, who ever.....
