Television wags have sniped that the Super Bowl is the only television event where viewership would actually decrease if the commercials were removed. We'd have to agree. Even with sponsors not blinking at price tags clocking in at $2.7M to $3M for a 30-second spot, some ads are thrown overboard into the wake of the information diaspora that is the Internet. Over the years, various networks have turned away many an ad -- judging them as either too offensive, downright embarrassing or masquerading as dreaded 'advocacy ads.' We at The Videologist have labored -- undeterred by the NFL -- to wade through many bouncy chests, bared bottoms and awkward kisses to figure out why exactly these ads were dismissed. It was tough work.
'Britney Spears'
Pepsi, 2002
Spot Remover: Back when she was the embodiment of budding sexuality, Britney Spears brought her dance moves and provocative leering to new heights in this Pepsi commercial. Skimpy outfit aside, her curvaceousness had to be edited onto to the dance floor, leaving us an advert much like a 24-hour old lukewarm Pepsi-Cola. In retrospect though, what was the fuss all about?
A Likely Sponsor: 'Dance War' -- who knew this reject signaled the beginning of dancing as a contact sport?
Most Offended: The marketing geniuses at Coke.

182. I believe the part of the Britney commercial that made it unacceptable was the leering old dudes at the end-which have since been edited out-it was really creepy to see Bob Dole sort of drooling over an underaged Britney.

183. QQN .. OH WOW WHERE THE OTHER I60 POSTERS ,... DID THEY DECIDE TO FIND ANOTHER TOPIC ALREADY... WELL WELL WELL.. THAT DOES NOT SURPRISE ME IN THE LEAST,.. WHAT DOES SURPRISE IS THE EMAILS THAT I GOT.. WOW.. AND THE FRIEND THAT I MADE.. WOW... STARTED OUT ONE WAY ENDED UP ANOTHER.. NOT TO MENTION WAS GOOD AT ASKING ME QUESTIONS.. WOW I MET A POSTER THAT WASN'T AFRAID TO CONRONT ME ON THIS ISSUE... AND NOW A DEAR FRIEND FOR LIFE.. SO ASK ME WAS IT WORTH .. NO ASK YOURSELF DID I OR DID I NOT GET YOUR ATTENTION?? AND IF I AM NOT A ADVERTISER IMAGINE IF THEY HAD DONE A SPOT.. I REST MY CASE.. AND NOW ENDDOMESTICVIOLENCE 1 ON 1 CLASS IS DISMISSED.. OH AND TO POSTER #169. while physical abuse is no laughing matter. It is up to you to protect yourself. If you man is hitting you get out, get help or go away for the game and after game activities. Let the guys and gals enjoy their game. Not having a superbowl will not stop domestic abuse. Only you have the power to make it stop.
I VENTURE TO GUESS YOU ARE ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED PHYSICAL ABUSE OR MAYBE YOU ARE.. ONLY YOU KNOW FOR SURE QQN.. I AGREE WITH YOU BUT WHAT ABOUT WHEN THEY TRY AND DIE? OR WHAT ABOUT WHEN THEY RUN THINKING THERE'S HOPE AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL WHAT ABOUT WHEN THEIR ABUSER TRACKS THEM DOWN.. FOR MORE INFORMATION ON CASES LIKE THIS CHECK OUT WELL I SUGGEST.. CHECKING OUT LIFETIME TELEVISION FOR WOMEN.. WOW AND THEN ASK ME MY THOUGHTS ON THAT... AND TO POSTER #171 171. Mzztlove, sounds like you have some issues. As a victim of abuse myself, it does leave a wretched mindset. However, blaming the NFL, an organization who and its players have payed out billions to organiztions like the United way that combat abuse. You obviously hate men and unless you get help youll only be setting yourself up for carrying on the abuse that got to you
MY COMMENT TO YOU IS THIS ... THANK YOU FOR FURTHER VALIDATING MY CASE.. NOW I ASK YOU WHAT ABOUT ALL THE OTHER VICTIMS?? TO SAY I HAVE ISSUES IS TRUE BUT YOU SHOULD ASK AND NOT JUST ASSUME I HAVE ISSUES AGAINST ALL MEN.. BECAUSE LET ME ASSURE YOU I DONT...HOWEVER I DO HAVE ISSUES WITH FORMER VICTIMS WHO DONT FEEL THEIR STORY PAST OR PRESENT MATTERS... AGAIN I THANK YOU ALL.. AND I CAN REST NOW KNOWING THAT I REACHED OUT AND GOT THIS KIND OF RESPONSE... I PRESS ON ... THANK YOU AGAIN... AND IF YOU WANT TO CONTACT ME.. DO LIKE THIS PERSON DID WOW SHOULD I EDIT THIS QQn
let me guess you sit there and bitch about how woman are equal to men but yet you go to a superbowl post and talk about getting help to stop ho ass woman that sleep around from getting there asses kicked when there man finds out. your a stupid bitch i hope you get beat for the rest of your life. who the fuck cares if femals had any sense they would fight back or leave there is more important problems here in america then what happens at home to some stupid bitch like you that deserves to be put in her place most of the time. how about all of the kids dieing in iraq oh wait there men so they dont matter. how about the jews taking over the country oh wait the country was founded by men so it doesnt matter. I bet your the gal who like to put a helmet and leash on there kid cause your afraid to let them get hurt and LEARN a lesson. what the statistics dont tell you is that every 3 out of 4 woman that get beat actually done something to deserve it. if woman were actually equal then men would be bitching so till you decide to work out and kick some ass SHUT THE FUCK UP BITCH
MY GOODNESS ISSUES. WELL IF YOU ASK ME THAT IS A CLEAR INDICATION OF THE ABUSERS ONLINE NOW.. SO WATCH OUT IM SURE YOU DONT THINK YOU CAN RUN ME AWAY THAT EASY.. I WOULD INCLUDE MY REPLY BUT NO LETS JUST SEE IF HE QQN DOES..

184. MZZTLove...seriously. You are a little delusional. You seem to believe that you've made some progress here. Umm...you haven't. Really. Yes, you've made an impression...but only in a negative way. You have failed to do your cause ANY good at all and I would venture to say that you may have even done it some damage. No one can take you seriously because your facts are pretty much non-existant and anything you've said that MAY sound like fact is simply...well...NOT a fact. Domestic violence is NOT the leading cause of death among women....THAT distinction belongs to a little thing you may have heard of called....umm HEART DISEASE. I am not touting any cause in particular but in the interest of "fact finding" maybe you should read some things here: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/heartdiseaseinwomen.html
You should note...that the aforementioned website carries a ".gov" in it. That means government. Note...I did not get my information from LIFETIME TV? LIFETIME TV....are you f-ing kiddng me with that??? You want people to listen to you and take you seriously and you send them to lifetime tv's website for information?? You really are out of touch. You thank folks for "validating your case"? Honey, you have zero validity and zero credibility. So since you like to make bets and/or challenge people....here's a challenge for you: I challenge you to come up with some FACTUAL evidence of your claims. If you are, indeed, a public servant, as you claim then it is your RESPONSIBLITY to be truthful and factual regarding your issue. Anything less than that is just downright irresponsible and dangerous. I still maintain my position that indeed, domestic violence is a problem but the super bowl and it's ads and the issue itself have NOTHING to do with each other. Okay...go to it and report back.

185. I don't see the difference between this commercial and the one she did with Bob Dole. She could be dressed up in a full Brigham standard formal and still be rejected. She has talent...how sad.

187. I'm sort of a liberal type of guy and generally not easily offended. But, most of the Super Bowl commercials were pure garbage. I mean, whom do they think they are appealing to? ...an already drunken croud of morons? How can intelligent executives spend their hard earned money (yeah, right) on such disgusting trash? The standards of the typical American seem to be slipping a bit.

188. Was the Super Bowl on already? who was in it?

189. Was this a footbal game?

190. I would have to agree with everyone else here when I say this is not the place for such discussion that's what PBS id for. There are help groups in each and every community for those issues, if you have one. As far as the Super Bowl, the ads are getting to be bad. I remember the good ones, like the Budweiser Frogs, I mean come on, who didn't like them?? Anyone seen the banned Go Daddy commercial at godaddy.com? That was pretty good, but of course it was not played. Anyway, I thought this year's half time show wad great. Tom Petty rocks the house!

192. I had a whole lot to say to MZZLOVE when I first started reading the blogs, but now that I've gotten here, you guys have pretty much told her everything she needed to hear, except one important thing. Buy a gun, shoot the ___hole, and next year we won't have to be talking about your problem. I think we all have enough of our own problems to deal with. I know I do!

193. Ok, maybe I'm getting old, but someone mentioned about going back to the "good" ads in Super Bowl? I hearby nominate the Coca-Cola commercial featuring Mean Joe Green from Super Bowl 1973! This is, by far, one of the best commercials.
