The following three videos describe the very real phenomenon of women and couples buying fake babies called 'Re-Borns.' These 'Re-Born' dolls are oftentimes taken as emotional and physical substitutes for actual infants. This trend has been documented in Britain as well as the U.S. This is their story.
Living Dolls
Explore the extraordinary lives of women who buy hand-crafted lifelike dolls called 'Re-Borns'. Treated as real infants and costing hundreds of dollars these 'human' babies cry, squirm and are the objects of intense affection by their 'mothers'. Loved like real babies, they're taken for walks, bathed and even have their diapers changed.

5. It's a collector's hobby, for Petesake! Just like artwork put in a place of honor, Faberge eggs, or paperweights. And if you've never collected anything, #1, YOU should get a life!

6. The only way I would say that "reborns" are a "good thing" would be if these fake babies could be placed in the care of sexually active teenagers so they can experience the "joys of parenthood". Maybe then they'd think twice before having sex at too early an age, and outside marriage.

7. This is clearly the most pathetic thing I have ever seen, these women need to be institutionalized....makes me wonder if they aren't the same kind of women who would steal another woman's baby.

11. Why don't they just adopt a homeless dog or cat? On the other hand, maybe these women aren't responsible enough to take care of an actual life.

12. OMG! what the hell is going on? What is wrong with these people? Where are they? I can't believe they take the doll to the park and get family portraits with it. They've all lost their minds! It's going to make them crazy! (Although they obviously already are). There going to start treating it like Tom Hanks did to Wilson the soccer ball in the movie Castaway and die trying to save the dolls freakin life or something. They all need serious help...NOW! Put this crap on the news and someone help them!

13. As someone who never had babies but wanted them I do understand that this would fulfill a need. However, I would be afraid that I would end up the crazy lady in the street walking around with a doll I think is real. It's more sad than creepy to me. It need to be said that the artist is undeniably brilliant!

14. reaaaaaaaaaaaalllly eeeeeeeeeerie! I searched my mind for a positive side and came up with only this: for parents of stillborns, maybe a replica??? a reminder near a photo???? still creepy though...I think adoption of even third world babies, volunteer at day care? hospital? something productive!
